About me

1. I’m 35 and a language professional based in Chennai, India.

2. My first mobile phone, back in 2000, was Alcatel OneTouch EasyDB. Then followed Nokia 3610, Nokia 3100, and in 2005 I bought my first S60 phone, the Nokia 6630. Now I have N80, which I bought in October 2007.

3. My second phone, Nokia 3610, a tad buggy but endearing, went dead when I almost drowned in a huge wave when tsunami struck the Bay of Bengal in December 2004. I had gone to the Marina beach to take a look at the after effects of tsunami. The fishermen nearby saved me, but the local Nokia Care Centre couldn’t save my phone, which was soaked in water and sand.

3. Nokia 7250i, though I haven’t used it, is special to me. Because I translated approximately 25000 UI strings for the phone from English to Tamil (I’ve done a small amount UI translation for other Nokia phones too, but I wasn’t told which).

4. I had an opportunity to go to Finland when translating the UI for 7250i, but I avoided it because it was December and I felt I wouldn’t survive the cold climate in Helsinki.

5. The phone I could kill for, literally: N95/N95 8GB.

6. My mobile dream, other than owning an N95 8GB, is to be able to read and write in Tamil in my Nokia mobile phone.

7. The first time I wrote about my experience with S60 was when I was writing under a female pseudonym. It’s about reading on a mobile phone. I now think that the N95s are the best phones to be used as ebook reading devices.

8. The most unusual thing I’ve done using my current mobile phone is watch a movie. I’ve written about it here.

9. I have my Flickr photos here.
